Friends anywhere, over the internet, or nearby on one phone's hotspot with no internet at all. Only button presses travel, phone to phone, with rollback netcode like online fighting games, so it feels like one machine.

  • Open or locked, your pickAn open room shows up under Rooms online for anyone with the game: one tap to join. A locked one shows too, but only its code gets in: a code like K7Q-2MX, its QR code or your link. Nearby rooms show up in the list by themselves.
  • Watch the matchEveryone comes in watching. Up to 8 phones in a room, and watchers never slow the players down.
  • Press COIN to playTakes a free seat: "Here comes a new challenger!" No seat free? You're in line, and when a player's game is over, their seat goes to the next one, as on the cabinet.
  • Talk, chat, add friendsQuick chat ("GG", "Rematch?") or type, and voice in online rooms with the mic off until you tap it. Add friends by code, see what they're playing, and join their room in one tap.

  • Follows the fightReads the game to see your team and who's on, through tag teams in Marvel vs Capcom and your Super Art in Street Fighter III.
  • Every move testedEach one was played in the real games exactly as the app plays it, and kept only if the fighter really did it.

Questions

FAQ

Are the games included?

No. The app comes with no games or BIOS: use dumps of games you own. It checks each zip and tells you exactly which files are missing, if any.

Does playing together use mobile data?

A nearby room uses none: everything travels over the hotspot or Wi-Fi between the phones, and the hotspot phone doesn't even need a SIM with data. An online room uses about 40 MB an hour for a two-player game; voice adds roughly 10-20 MB an hour.

Can strangers join my room?

Only if you make it open: an open room is listed for anyone with the game, and its connections go through our relay, so nobody learns your internet address. A locked room is listed too, but only someone with its code gets in. The host can lock an open room any time.

Do I need an account to play online?

No sign-up: the app makes a guest profile the first time you go online (a name and an icon of your choice). Nearby rooms need nothing at all.

Can we talk while we play?

Yes, in online rooms: tap the mic by the chat button (it's off when you join, and the app asks for the microphone only then). Open mic or push to talk, the voices' own volume, and mute anyone. The host can mute someone for the room or let watchers only listen. Chat works in every room, nearby too, with a word filter on.

How do friends work?

Each player has a friend code on the Online screen. Add a friend by theirs (or from a room's chat), and you see when they're online and what they're playing, with Join to go straight into their room. Invite friends from your room; block anyone, and they can't find or invite you.

How many can play?

As many as the game takes: 2 in most, 3 in Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, 4 in Mystic Warriors, Sunset Riders and Moo Mesa. Up to 8 phones can be in a room; the rest watch and can take a seat with COIN or START.

Do all phones need the same version?

Yes: every phone needs the latest app and the same game files. The app tells you if they differ.

Which phones does it run on?

Android 8 or newer, phones and tablets (the controls grow with a bigger screen). Neo Geo games run on almost any phone; Street Fighter III and Marvel vs Capcom like a recent one.

Where is the source code?

On GitHub. It runs the FBNeo arcade emulator through LibretroDroid.
